We want to take tangible action to support Black families, especially locally. While this is not a comprehensive list of ALL the amazing Black owned businesses in Austin, they are some of our favorite eats and sweets. And we would love to hear about your favorites, even if it’s not a restaurant or food-related! Tag us on Instagram or Facebook next time you visit your favorite and we’ll make sure to add them to our list.

Anything’s Baked Potato

Who doesn’t like a good baked potato?! They do have other options if you’re feeling a little less...potatoey. And vegan options as well!

Bird Bird Biscuit

This place is BOMB! In 2016, Brian and Ryan, the longtime owner/operators of Austin’s Thunderbird Coffee, became inspired to start a new dream involving something they both loved: sandwiches and biscuits.

Dat Boot Po-Boys

Locals love the authentic flavors offered at Dat Boot Po-Boys.

Suga’s Cakery

Feeling something sweet? Suga’s Cakery has a variety of offerings to choose from, this business was inspired by the owner’s grandmother, "Suga," who baked all of the family cakes.

Willie’s Bar-B-Q

This is Texas, and it’s safe to say that even if barbecue isn’t your favorite, you still enjoy it more often than not. Willie’s offers succulent and juicy meat so full of flavor. If you haven’t given then a try yet, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR!

This small list is only a tiny fraction of Black owned businesses in Austin and we want to continue highlighting them, so be sure to tag us in your favorites! Our goal is to put out several lists as we gather more information and visit more local spots.

A note

We are committed to being better allies to the Black community. These last several weeks have been eye opening. While everyone’s approach to being anti-racist might look a little different, like donating money to organizations, walking in protests, writing letters to representatives, sharing resources, or voting in general, we want to make sure that we are constantly striving to be not only not racist, but anti-racist. We will continue to improve and diversify not only the workplace but the world, even if it’s just a little at a time. It’s hard to find the right words to say, but we want to make sure and say something. We want you to know where we stand.
